From organizing your closet to deep cleaning your home, we've created a complete checklist to help with spring cleaning this year.
1. Declutter using a Sorting Technique
Start two piles, a keep pile and a giveaway pile. When going through your closet, pick out the clothes you regularly wear first. If you have trouble deciding if you should keep an item or not, ask yourself if you've worn it within the past year. If you haven't, it's likely time to let it go.
Similar to your closet, you can use the same sorting technique for decluttering any room.
2. Organize Your Closet
Once you have your closet sorted, now it's time to get it organized. Separate and group your dress pants, jeans, sweaters, t-shirts, and dress shirts. It's a good idea, if you plan on storing away your winter clothes for the season, to have your items dry cleaned before packing away. This will ensure no current stains set on your garments and they are fresh and ready to go when you take them out of storage. You may want to invest in closet organization to help you easily see all your wardrobe has to offer.
3. Clean Your Bedroom
While you should wash your sheets and bedding weekly, many often do not follow such a strict regimen. During your spring cleaning spree, strip your bed and give your bedding the care it deserves. You may also choose to vacuum your mattress to remove any excess dust, dead skin, and pet hair. While washing your comforter, sheets, and pillowcases are essential, the oversized items can be hard to wash using home machines. Luckily, Craig's Dry Cleaners can handle washing your bedding, and with our free pickup and delivery option, we will pick up your items and return them to your doorstep fresh and clean!
Other items to focus on when cleaning your bedroom this spring include:
Vacuum and mop underneath the bed
Wipe down the baseboards
Dust and wipe down your headboard and footboard
4. Clean and Change Out Curtains
Many people use heavier curtains during the winter to help keep the cold air out and reduce the monthly heating expense. As the temperatures warm up, it's time to switch out these curtains to ones that will allow the sun to brighten your spaces. Curtains can be a tricky textile to wash, so if you have questions about proper curtain care, give us a call. Our expert dry cleaning professionals can help ensure you do not ruin your window curtains and drapes.
5. Deep Clean Bathrooms
While you may routinely wipe down the sinks, tubs, shower, and clean the toilet, it's important to regularly do a deep cleaning to keep the space germ free and sparkling clean. Go through your medicine cabinet and vanity drawers to discard any old personal care products and makeup. You also should take any old medication to dedicated drop-off sites to safely dispose of the items.
When deep cleaning showers, don't forget the showerheads to keep the sprayers free of mineral build-up and the shower curtains or shower doors. Be sure to follow the care label to properly launder shower curtains and liners, or for old shower liners that need to be replaced, purchase new ones.
6. Organize Your Kitchen
After thoroughly scrubbing the floors, counters, and appliances, take the time to organize. Sorting small appliances and utensils will allow you to see if there is anything that you can get rid of or find it a new home. Also, examine your pantry, fridge, and freezer, and remove any expired or old items.
Giving everything a place and removing unnecessary clutter will not only make it easier to find stuff when preparing meals, but it will also make the task less stressful.
7. Don't Forget the Laundry Room
After all loads of laundry that spring cleaning creates, you shouldn't forget to give this space a deep clean. Besides sweeping and moping any stray lint and dirt lurking in the room, you should also focus on:
Clean out dry vent
Run a cleaning cycle for your washing machine using a washer cleaning solution
Organize your detergent and laundry supplies
If room allows, consider adding a folding table to help encourage the finishing step to the laundry process
8. Other Items to Replace and Clean
Test smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, replace batteries if needed
Check air filters and replace as needed
Clean air vents/registers
Dust and clean light fixtures and replace light bulbs as needed
Wipe down all door handles and light switches
